After Kawasaki debut
Kawasaki newcomer John Hopkins undertook his first test onboard the Ninja ZX-RR800 at Valencia on Monday and Tuesday, and immediately impressed with his quick adaptation to his new bike.
The Anglo-American had signed off with former team Rizla
Suzuki on Sunday, taking a podium in his final race for Paul Denning's MotoGP outfit. Hopkins improved on his fastest lap of the race whilst getting to grips with the 2007 Kawasaki, his 1'33.058 run trimming 6 hundredths of a second off his Sunday best.
“Everything's really good; the bike's got a lot of power”, said the 24 year-old on his second day with ‘Team Green'. “We're going to have to make some improvements and adjust the bike to my riding style; it's always been set up for Randy, so we definitely have to reverse that a little.”
Hopkins will be receiving the expert guidance of one of the most experienced Chief Mechanics in the MotoGP paddock, Fiorenzo Fanali, in addition to other important members of the Kawasaki setup. The wealth of knowledge in the garage and the potential of the new bike give Hopkins some high hopes for the future.
“It's an exciting time. Kawasaki are going to make some big steps forward in 2008, and hopefully we'll be the ones taking it to the top”, concluded this season's fourth placed finisher.
