The 25 year-old came within 0.057s of his team-mate
Hiroshi Aoyama's circuit best lap set last year, as he took pole ahead of closest challenger Jorge Lorenzo (Fortuna Aprilia) by 0.167s. Lorenzo is therefore on the front row for the 16th time in 17 races this year.
Yuki Takahashi (Kopron Team Scot) and Marco Simoncelli (Metis Gilera) have also both made it onto the front row, while row two is an all Spanish affair comprising Hector Barbera (Team Toth), Alvaro Bautista (Master Mapfre Aspar), Julian Simon (Repsol Honda) and Alex Debon (Aprilia Racing).
