Sepang : 125cc – Day OneIn tricky conditions at the Polini Malaysian Motorcycle Grand Prix, Blusens Aprilia's Pablo Nieto has taken provisional pole at Sepang in the Friday 125cc QP1 outing.
After a brief but torrential storm just before midday local time at the
Asian venue, there was plenty of water still on the track when the single cylinder competitors took to their bikes for their first qualifying session of the weekend.
With most riders putting in reduced numbers of laps on the slippery surface, it was 27 year old Nieto who best adapted to the conditions as he went round 11 seconds off the circuit record for 125cc machinery set by Andrea Dovizioso in 2004, to top the timesheet by a sizeable 2.706s margin.
Sitting behind Nieto on the provisional front row are Polaris World's Mattia Pasini, Lukas Pesek (Valsir Seedorf Derbi) and World Championship leader Gabor Talmacsi (Bancaja Aspar).
The second row, meanwhile, provisionally comprises Nieto's Blusens Aprilia colleague Stefan Bradl, Kopron Team Scot's Mike di Meglio, Sandro Cortese (Emmi – Caffe Latte Aprilia) and Esteve Rabat (Repsol Honda).
