Pedrosa on pole for second successive race
Phillip Island : MotoGP qualifying
Repsol Honda's Dani Pedrosa took his second consecutive MotoGP pole today at Phillip Island, with a lap of 1'29.201s in qualifying at the GMC Australian Grand Prix - to put him ahead of Valentino Rossi (Fiat Yamaha) and Casey Stoner (Ducati
Marlboro) on the grid for Sunday's 16th race of the season.

After some good practice times culminated with his second pole in a row Pedrosa will hope that he can avoid a repeat of his spectacular crash at Motegi which saw his race end in an instant with a highside that left him with an injured foot.

Behind the Catalan rider in second on the grid is Italian five-time former premier class World Champion Rossi who ended the session 0.218s slower than Pedrosa.

Newly crowned homecoming champion Stoner will be looking for one of his trademark strong starts from the back of the first row, as he looks to celebrate winning the title by adding a ninth race victory of the year - in front of the adoring home fans.

Another decent showing for Pedrosa's Repsol Honda team-mate and now ‘former World Champion' Nicky Hayden saw him finish the session fourth, ahead of Ducati Marlboro's Loris Capirossi and Kawasaki's Randy de Puniet on the second row.

Pramac d'Antin's Alex Barros is joined by surprise pair Shinya Nakano (Konica Minolta Honda) and Sylvain Guintoli (Dunlop Yamaha Tech 3) on row three, while home rider Ant West (Kawasaki) will start from tenth.
