Motegi : 250cc race
An excellent 250cc race at the Twin Ring circuit of Motegi saw Red Bull KTM's Mika Kallio take maximum points at the A-Style Grand Prix of Japan, while second placed Andrea Dovizioso (Kopron Team Scot) gained significant championship ground in second.
New father Kallio whose partner gave birth to a daughter while he was competing at Estoril last weekend celebrated in style with a great ride from fifth on the grid to take victory by 4.893s. It was the Finn's first 250cc win, but his third triumph in succession at Motegi after two consecutive 125cc victories.
Dovizioso closed the gap in the general standings to 36 points with World Champion Jorge Lorenzo finishing 11th – 1'13.035s off the race winning pace.
Hector Barbera (Team Toth) rode steadily from fourth on the grid to take the final podium spot 21 seconds behind Kallio, whilst Yuki Takahashi (Kopron Team Scot) was the highest placed home rider in fourth.
Takahashi was in the lead for several laps and still part of the leading group before a mistake on lap 18 - which saw him run off track and re-enter the race behind Barbera.
Fifth place went to Alex de Angelis (Master - Mapfre Aspar), Julian Simon (Repsol Honda) was sixth and Marco Simoncelli (Metis Gilera) seventh, while Japanese brothers Hiroshi Aoyama (Red Bull KTM) and Shuhei Aoyama (Repsol Honda) were eighth and ninth respectively.
The winner for the last two years, Hiroshi Aoyama, could have challenged for a hat-trick of home wins but crashed on lap 21 under pressure from Dovizioso having just lost second place to the Italian.
