Brno : Race day
The Cardion ab Grand Prix Ceske republiky 125cc race at Brno today saw Bancaja Aspar's Hector Fabuel take his third victory of the season, crossing the finishing line just 0.070s ahead of second placed Mattia Pasini (Polaris World) after a great battle at
the front involving five riders.
The Spanish rider started second on the grid and held his nerve throughout the contest to take the glory at a track where he has crashed out of the race on his last two visits – and move ten points clear at the head of the World Championship standings.
Joining Faubel and Pasini on the podium to the delight of the home crowd was Lukas Pesek (Valsir Seedorf Derbi), who crossed the line just 0.222s behind the race winner.
Thousands of Hungarian fans made the trip to the Czech Republic to support Gabor Talmacsi but the experienced Bancaja Aspar rider lost his World Championship lead as he missed out on a podium spot by just 0.05s.
A five way battle for the lead saw Faubel and Talmacsi's Aspar colleague Sergio Gadea crash out with three laps to go, leaving Japanese rider Tomoyoshi Koyama (Red Bull KTM) to take fifth place, seven seconds behind the front runners.
The top ten was completed by Pol Espargaro (Belson Campetella), Simone Corsi (Skilled Racing Team), Michael Ranseder (Ajo Motorsport), Randy Krummenacher (Red Bull KTM) and Sandro Cortese (Emmi Caffe Latte).
