In 2008Following this week's news that Jorge Lorenzo will be an official Yamaha factory rider in MotoGP in 2008, it has been announced that his close friend and advisor Alex Debon will replace him as Fortuna Aprilia's number one 250cc rider next season.
At 31 years
old, Spaniard Debon has plenty of experience and is a logical choice to replace the quarter litre class World Champion and current 250cc category leader, having been a test rider for Aprilia for the last two seasons – a period in which he has been closely involved in the development of the RSA 250.
Debon was a wildcard at Catalunya in June and will again feature on the grid at the first race after the summer break in the Czech Republic on 19th August.
He commented "Dani Amatriain (Fortuna Aprilia manager) made me an offer I couldn't pass up, replacing Jorge Lorenzo in his team. I'm really excited about the project as I think it's a great opportunity, the best of my career. I'm ready to give 100% and I want to repay the faith being shown in me."
