Sachsenring : 250cc – Day Two
Finnish rider Mika Kallio, of the Red Bull KTM 250 team, this afternoon earned his first pole since moving up to the quarter litre class at the beginning of the season - as he lapped 0.230ss quicker than closest rival Andrea Dovizioso (Kopron
Team Scot) at the Alice Motorrad Grand Prix Deutschland.
Kallio, who was 125cc World Championship runner-up in 2005 and 2006, was provisionally fifth on the grid at the start of the day, but after topping the timesheets in the morning practice he continued his good work in the afternoon to set a new circuit best lap of 1'24.413s at the Sachsenring circuit.
Joining Kallio and Dovizioso on the front row will be Alex de Angelis, who held the circuit best lap record before it was broken this afternoon, and World Champion Jorge Lorenzo – who lapped 0.322s off the pace.
The second row will comprise Repsol Honda's Julian Simon, Kallio's KTM colleague Hiroshi Aoyama, Team Toth Aprilia's Hector Barbera and Metis Gilera's Marco Simoncelli who all qualified within 0.
515s of Kallio – Simoncelli doing so courtesy of his best time from Friday which he was unable to improve upon today.
