On day one at Assen
Having finally broken his cruel run of bad luck last weekend with a win at Donington, it was business as usual for Polaris World's Mattia Pasini at the A-Style TT Assen today as the Italian rider took provisional pole in the 125cc QP1 session at the famous
Pasini has been on pole on five occasions already this year, but has just one victory and only three race finishes to his name after eight rounds of the World Championship due to his well documented series of technical problems.
This afternoon at Assen the 21 year old topped the timesheet by 0.180s ahead of Valsir Seedorf Derbi's Lukas Pesek with a lap of 1'45.603s to provisionally head the grid for Saturday's race. Should rain slow the riders in tomorrow's second qualifying session, a distinct possibility at Assen, then Pasini's Friday performance will prove even more valuable.
Simone Corsi (Skilled Racing Team) was third fastest, while Bancaja Aspar's Sergio Gadea completed the provisional front row – with the second row provisionally comprising Sandro Cortese (Emmi – Caffe Latte Aprilia),
Gadea's Aspar colleagues Gabor Talmacsi and Hector Faubel and Multimedia Racing's Raffaele de Rosa.
