De Angelis earns provisional 250cc pole
On first day of action at Donington
Alex De Angelis (Master Mapfre Aspar) took provisional pole for Sunday's Nickel & Dime British Grand Prix 250cc race this afternoon with his penultimate lap of 20 in the quarter litre first qualifying practice at Donington Park.

The
first day of the eighth round of the World Championship has been severely affected by rain in the East Midlands English county of Leicestershire and De Angelis' provisional pole setting time was just under 15 seconds slower than World Champion Jorge Lorenzo's circuit best lap set last year.

Today though, championship leader Lorenzo (Fortuna Aprilia) had to settle for the last spot on the provisional front row as the fourth fastest this afternoon, while the man second in the current general classification, Kopron Team Scot's Andrea Dovizioso, was second fastest and De Angelis' Aspar colleague Alvaro Bautista third.

Meanwhile Marco Simoncelli (Metis Gilera), Thomas Luthi (Emmi Caffe Latte), Julian Simon (Repsol Honda) and Hiroshi Aoyama (Red Bull KTM) make up the provisional second row.
