Lorenzo dominant in front of elated crowd
Catalunya : 250cc race
Another display of supreme control this afternoon in the 250cc race at the Gran Premi Cinzano de Catalunya saw Jorge Lorenzo take an impressive win in front of 100,000 delighted Spanish spectators to stretch his World Championship lead to 36 points.

The 20 year old Fortuna Aprilia rider started on pole after qualifying almost a second ahead of his nearest challenger and never looked like finishing anywhere other than in first position.

Lorenzo's fifth victory of the year continues the sequence of every race in the 250cc category in 2007 being won by the rider who has qualified on pole, in contrast to MotoGP where each race so far this year has been won from behind first place on the grid.

Lorenzo was in the lead throughout the race and eventually crossed the finishing line by 3.194s ahead of Master – Mapfre Aspar's Alex de Angelis, before celebrating with two Fortuna Aprilia leather-clad look-alikes – rocking the crowd with an impromptu pop performance.

A further ten seconds back Kopron Team Scot's Andrea Dovizioso completed the podium with the rest of the field struggling to keep pace with the talented Lorenzo as he defends his title.
Dovizioso has now scored points at the last 27 successive races highlighting his consistency at this level but today he lost further ground on Lorenzo in the title race, while De Angelis closes to within two points of the second placed Italian in the standings.

A good ride from Emmi – Caffe Latte Aprilia's Thomas Luthi saw him finish fourth, De Angelis' Aspar team-mate Alvaro Bautista was fifth and Red Bull KTM's Mika Kallio was sixth – while Aprilia Racing's wild card Alex Debon crashed with just six laps to go when in fifth position and remounted to cross the line 16th.
