To take provisional 250cc pole
The first 250cc qualifying session at the Gran Premi Cinzano de Catalunya this afternoon saw Fortuna Aprilia's World Champion Jorge Lorenzo take provisional pole at the seventh Grand Prix of the season.
The Majorcan rider aims to bounce
back from his Italian disappointment and continue his quarter litre class dominance on Spanish soil this weekend – so to end day one at Montmelo, Barcelona at the head of the timesheets by exactly one tenth of a second with a new circuit best lap of 1'45.913s is a perfect way to start the weekend.
Second on the provisional grid is Lorenzo's arch rival and former team-mate Hector Barbera (Team Toth Aprilia) while third is Andrea Dovizioso (Kopron Team Scot), with both riders also lapping quicker than the previous circuit best lap set by Lorenzo in 2005.
Completing the first row provisionally is Mugello race winner Alvaro Bautista, while his Master – Mapfre Aspar team-mate Alex de Angelis currently heads a second row which is completed by Red Bull KTM's Mika Kallio, Repsol Honda's Shuhei Aoyama and Emmi – Caffe Latte Aprilia's Thomas Luthi.
