The sixth 125cc race of the 2007 season saw Héctor Faubel take victory at the Gran Premio d'Italia Alice at Mugell in front of a passionate Italian crowd.
Spaniard Faubel had qualified on pole for the first time in his career for what was his 88th Grand
Prix and did battle for the lead with a group of ten riders at the front throughout the race, before overtaking on the final straight to beat his team-mate Sergio Gadea by just 0.020s.
Faubel now leads the World Championship by seven points, with previous leader Lukas Pesek crashing out of the race on the final corner.
A brilliant ride from Gadea saw him come from 20th on the grid to take a highly creditable second place, while Skilled Racing Team's Simone Corsi was the highest placed Italian as he secured the final podium position.
Fourth place for Faubel and Gadea's Bancaja Aspar team-mate Gabor Talmacsi left the Hungarian frustrated to miss out on the podium, but he remains second in the general classification.
Fifth place went to Japanese Red Bull KTM 125 rider Tomoyoshi Koyama, finishing the race in the position in which he started it on the grid. Mattia Pasini came from ninth on the grid for his best result of the season in sixth, just his second finish of the year, but would have hoped for more having challenged for the lead in his home race.
Kopron Team Scot's Dino Lombardi would also have been massively disappointed to have crashed out on the first lap, whilst his French team-mate Mike di Meglio lasted until just lap three before he too suffered a race ending accident.
There was also disappointment for another Italian, Andrea Iannone, who was victim of a nasty highside on lap 16 when battling for ninth position.
