Dovizioso earns dramatic 250cc win
Istanbul : 250cc race
The third Grand Prix of the season saw last year's World Championship runner-up Andrea Dovizioso secure 25 crucial points as he took victory in the 250cc class at the Istanbul Park circuit this afternoon.

The Grand Prix of Turkey saw a superb
three way battle for supremacy between Dovizioso and Spaniards Jorge Lorenzo and Alvaro Bautista - all three holding the lead at various stages.

But having started the race in pole position it was the Dovizioso of the Scot Racing Team who deservedly finished at the top of the podium, beating Lorenzo by 0.103s.

The Italian won the race with a brilliantly timed overtaking manoeuvre at the end of the final lap, which saw him fight his way past the Spanish pair when it looked like Lorenzo was on course for yet another win.

Indeed many neutral observers will be happy to see the current World Champion and championship leader Lorenzo's dominance of the quarter litre category pegged back after his wins in Qatar and Jerez. However the Fortuna Aprilia man's second place finish keeps him firmly in control at the head of the standings, with the riders heading to China for the next Grand Prix in two weeks time.

Gaining further 250 experience the 125cc World Champion Alvaro Bautista was on the podium again, in third place, while his Master Mapfre Aspar colleague Alex de Angelis' fourth place meant that the front four finished the race in the positions they had started on the grid.

Meanwhile, after starting the race sixth, Swiss Emmi Caffe Latte Aprilia's Thomas Luthi crossed the line fifth, meaning that winner Dovizioso was the sole Honda rider in the top five ahead of four Aprilia men.

Luthi was followed across the line by Red Bull KTM's Mika Kallio in sixth, Repsol Honda's Julian Simon seventh and Team Toth Aprilia's Hector Barbera in eighth place.
