A three-way fight for the Monaco Pole?
Championship leader Fernando Alonso thinks a new rival has joined the battle for victory in Monte Carlo - McLaren Mercedes.
Alonso, quickest on Thursday morning in the Principality, was outpaced by Juan Pablo Montoya in the afternoon.

A slight change in his Barcelona tune
Juan Pablo Montoya has belatedly admitted his role in a race-ending spin two weeks ago in Spain.
After the Barcelona race, the Colombian pinned the blame on a malfunctioning traction control system, to which Mercedes' Norbert Haug advised the McLaren driver to be more critical of himself.

Ross Brawn has failed to directly deny increasing speculation about his future at Ferrari.
When asked what he might be doing beyond 2006, when his current contract runs out, the team's Technical Director only ruled out simply switching to a rival.

Slow reaction to a small practice fire
Kimi Raikkonen hit out at the track Marshals here Thursday after a wiring problem forced his McLaren out of much of the first free practice session.

Raikkonen stopped on the track early in the first session and remonstrated with marshals as they attempted to extinguish a fire at the back of his car.

The end of the second practice session today at Monaco saw Michael Schumacher just 15th in his Ferrari, five places further down the timesheets than team-mate Felipe Massa.

Anthony Davidson was the fastest Michelin runner on the opening day of the Monaco Grand Prix meeting, recording the second fastest time in the second practice session.

MF1 Toyota had a trouble-free opening day to the Monaco Grand Prix with Tiago Monteiro in particular doing a solid job with his M16 to set the 12th best time in the second session.

Test driver Giorgio Mondini was 14th fastest while Christijan Albers was a little lost with his setup and just 24th of the 28 runners.

Alex Wurz set the pace today in the second of the day’s two, one-hour long practice sessions with a time of 1m15.907s. The Bridgestone shod driver completed a total of 55 laps while testing the two specifications of tyre his team has chosen for the Monaco Grand Prix weekend.

Monaco GP - McLaren Mercedes - Practice
Juan Pablo Montoya and Kimi Raikkonen finished today's second free practice in third and sixth positions respectively.

At the end of the first practice when Raikkonen came out for his first lap of the week a heat shield on his car caught fire and damaged the wire looming which made the engine switch off.

David Coulthard encouraged with early pace at Monaco
Monaco GP - Red Bull Ferrari - Practice
David Coulthard ended the second practice session of the day today at Monaco an encouraged eighth fastest. Team-mate Christian Klien suffered with some steering issues and was not so happy with the balance of his RB2 as he was just 21st, while Robert Doornbos was a solid fifth fastest.
