Robert Doornbos Sumar
Robert Doornbos got his taste of Formula One in his role of Friday test driver at the end of the 2004 season and for the first half of 2005. The Dutch driver’s big break came when Patrick Friesacher ran into sponsorship problems, forcing Minardi to look around for a replacement for the German Grand Prix onwards.
Doornbos got the nod and teams up with countryman Christijan Albers in what should prove to be a close fought battle.
He burst onto the International
racing scene in 2004 with Arden International as team-mate to eventual F3000 Champion Vitantonio Liuzzi. Doornbos recorded a single victory in 2004 at the Spa Francorchamps circuit and finished third in the championship race. Prior to this he competed in the Germans and European Formula 3 categories in 2002 and 2003.
Doornbos enjoys backing from Dutch property developers, Muermans Group.
