Keeping up with circuit rivalsLast weekend’s Malaysian Grand Prix will be remembered by most for the fast starting McLaren duo of
Fernando Alonso and Lewis Hamilton, but for some, it was Bernie Ecclestone’s comments that the facility is starting to look ‘shabby’.
Sepang
International Circuit Chairman Mokhzani Mahathir has confirmed that work on a support building paddock, hospitality suites and toilet facilities will be complete ahead of the 2008 Grand Prix.
The Sepang overhaul was actually given the green light last year with some work completed ahead of this year’s main event.
"I was told Bernie has an attachment to SIC as it is the first purpose-built track for F1. Hence, he is extra critical of the state it is in," Mahathir told the newspaper Today.
"We prioritised what refurbishment needed to be done, addressing F1 requirements first, then general refurbishment and then on to a list of things we would like to have to upgrade SIC. We've completed Phase I of the programme and I hope to get II and III done before the next F1."
