Team optimistic heading to BahrainEven a bad omen could not stop McLaren from returning to the top of the podium on Sunday for the first time in nearly eighteen months.
The Mercedes-Benz S-Class team boss Ron Dennis travelled in to the Sepang circuit on Sunday pulled
over to the side of the road this morning with a flat tyre, we have learned.
"It was just a little pit stop," the Briton reportedly grinned after
Fernando Alonso and Lewis Hamilton secured a one-two in Malaysia.
But even dominant race winner Alonso was not getting carried away as he admitted that the MP4-22 McLaren is probably still outgunned for ultimate pace by its red rivals.
"If Felipe had kept his lead at the start it would have been difficult to follow his pace, so we should not be confused," Alonso said.
Kimi Raikkonen also confirmed after finishing third that the overheating engine issue meant that his power plant had not been pushed to its limit all weekend.
Alonso said: "But we are much closer than in Australia and we have big improvements coming so we should be alright in the end."
