FIA introduce variation of 'red tyre rule'
Making the tyre choice clear for race fans
A variation of the speculated 'red tyre rule' will be implemented in Formula One this year.

To coincide with Bridgestone's new era as sole supplier, the Japanese company must differentiate the appearance of the 'hard' and
'soft' options at each race, after the F1 Commission and World Motor Sport Council implemented an update to the sporting rules.

In the Champ Car World Series, Bridgestone colour the tyre walls red so that spectators can clearly determine the compound in use, but it is not yet clear how the tyres will be distinguished for F1.

The new sporting regulation was amended "with the unanimous agreement of all competing teams" in the past days, the FIA said.

Subsection 4 of Article 25.
1 B now reads: "(Each tyre specification) must be of one homogenous compound and visibly distinguishable from one another when a car is on the track."

Similarly, another new rule tweak requires that airbox cameras be coloured either fluorescent red or yellow in 2007 so that spectators can distinguish between each team's two drivers.
