Changes on the way for MotoGPThe future of the US Grand Prix beyond June is unconfirmed, but should the race go ahead in 2008 it is reported that the F1 layout at Indianapolis could be changed.
The publication Motorcycle USA claims that a round of the MotoGP may
well be held at the fabled Motor Speedway next year; a move that would require a modification to the infield road course.
MotoGP's governing body, the FIM, has apparently already inspected the Indy road course 'and approved it for racing'.
But the report added: "No, the bikes won't take to the banking like the current Formula One course. Instead the Speedway has drawn up plans to reconfigure the circuit to avoid that potentially dangerous section."
"And once that construction has taken place, the new configuration will also become the new F1 circuit."
Turn 13, the banked section that is actually Turn 1 of the Indy 500 oval layout, is already a contentious feature on the annual F1 schedule, after Michelin's tyres in 2005 proved unsuitable and 14 cars were unable to take the start of the race.
Official confirmation of the MotoGP round at Indianapolis is expected in the next few weeks.
