Satisfying the demand of its customersPorsche has ruled out entering Formula One in the near future.
Denying that recent infrastructure developments were in preparation for a Grand Prix foray, the German sports car manufacturer's head of motor sport Hartmut Kristen
said: "Motorsport for us does not have a purely self-interested purpose. Rather, we want to satisfy the demands of our customers."
The quote appeared in the Financial Times Deutschland.
As it stands, there is no room for a new entry with Prodrive taking the 12th and final available slot on the grid for 2008. Other, including former Minardi owner Paul Stoddart put in bids to become the 12th team, but it was Dave Richards' Prodrive team that got the nod. Any new manufacturer would therefore have to purchase an existing team.
Porsche were responsible for the championship winning ‘TAG’ engine that powered McLaren to success in the mid-80s.
