Predicting a tight battle at the front of the fieldFernando Alonso this week denied that he suffered a difficult relationship with his former Renault race engineer Rod Nelson.
Nelson left Renault to join Williams as Alonso switched to McLaren over the winter, but
the 25-year-old insisted this week at a sponsor function in Madrid: "I have always had good engineers in Formula One."
This year at McLaren he is working with Mark Slade.
Alonso said: "My engineers at Renault helped to develop me as a driver and now I am very comfortable with the people who are in charge of my car at McLaren."
Before jetting off for Bahrain to test on Friday, Alonso cautioned that not too much can be read into McLaren's form this winter.
"I see myself in a good position but a few of the teams are very close together," he said.
