A difficult start for the RB3 packageTo follow the marathon six day session in Bahrain, Red Bull has scheduled a final test prior to Melbourne in order to get to the bottom of the RB3's pace and reliability problems.
While many teams will not run again after the
close of the Bahrain test, it is understood that Red Bull will head to a familiar European circuit - probably in Spain but France has also been mentioned as a possibility - to sample a raft of improvements that will not be ready for the current offshore session.
Australian driver Mark Webber said in Bahrain after the first day's running on Thursday: "It was a frustrating morning as we had a problem which we hadn't been aware of in Europe."
The German magazine Auto Motor und Sport reports that the RB3's biggest frailty is its compact transmission, but the team is currently proving a raft of last-minute Adrian Newey-penned aerodynamic pieces in the Bedford wind tunnel.
At the final European test, to be conducted over one or two days, new front and rear wings are set to be tried, as will a totally revised under-body.
