2007 Testing underway at Paul Ricard Giorgio Pantano has set the quickest overall lap time of the first day of 2007 GP2 series testing yesterday at Circuit Paul Ricard, France.
The Italian, driving for the Campos Grand Prix team in 2007, set his best time towards
the end of a rain affected afternoon session which had seen most drivers remain in their garages for the majority of the post-lunch period.
The morning had seen a greater quantity of action as the teams and drivers made full use of their time on the familiar 3.853 km “3D” track solution to get used to the new cars. Timo Glock set the fastest lap in this opening gambit for iSport International, good for second fastest overall.
Antonio Pizzonia was third fastest on the day ahead of Javier Villa for Racing Engineering.
Thursday sees a total change in track layout, with the 4.087km "2A" solution in use to allow the teams to run aero-mapping tests on the new-for-2007 upgraded aero kit.
