Expecting a short learning curve for former team-mateFernando Alonso will need time to get up to speed at McLaren Mercedes.
That is the opinion of the reigning world champion's former Renault team-mate
Giancarlo Fisichella, who predicted a possible pause in Alonso's
winning record in early 2007 due to his defection to McLaren.
"Unlike some others he must get accustomed to his mechanics and his engineers," said Fisichella, adding that he has now assumed the role of 'spiritual leader' at Renault due to new team-mate Heikki Kovalainen's rookie status.
Referring to Alonso, Fisichella continued: "But Fernando is an excellent driver who learns very fast. He will be a great rival for us."
