No automatic number one status in 2007 at FerrariJean Todt has confirmed reports that a conditional policy of driver equality will be in force when
Kimi Raikkonen and Felipe Massa pull up on the grid for the start of the 2007 season in March.
Although the retired
Michael Schumacher enjoyed undisputed 'number one' treatment by the Italian team for a decade, the Ferrari CEO and Team Principal said 'healthy competition' between the new race line-up could produce 'great results'.
But Todt cautioned to the newspaper Corriere della Sera: "We will be very careful to make sure that this internal rivalry does not become counterproductive. The interests of Ferrari are what is most important, and Raikkonen and Massa know this law very well."
For the last decade,
Michael Schumacher enjoyed number one status with the Italian team.
Ferrari's 2007 car will be launched at the weekend. At the Fiorano circuit on Monday, Massa will be the first behind the wheel before Raikkonen makes his track debut at Mugello later this month.
