Funding remains the issue for Jacques VilleneuveJacques
Jacques Villeneuve's plans to switch to NASCAR has hit a road block, according to a report in the Canadian press.
The Toronto based Globe and Mail newspaper writes that although
Jacques Villeneuve recently penned a conditional deal with
Roush Racing to start in the lesser Busch category this year, the former F1 champion has failed to find the necessary $18m in backing.
'A source close' to the 35-year-old is quoted by the newspaper as saying that he is now looking at other ways to break into the popular stock car series, after falling out with BMW Sauber in 2006.
"If you haven't driven these cars," the source said, "there aren't a lot of people who want to touch you.
The teams think there's (a) steep learning curve which takes time and experience and they don't want to finance it."
The newspaper said
Jacques Villeneuve is considering a ride in the Craftsman Truck Series, even though it is considered the bottom of the NASCAR ladder.
