Aiming to grab back the Japanese Grand PrixAfter losing the Japanese Grand Prix to arch rival Toyota's Fuji circuit, Honda has vowed to revamp Suzuka in a bid to win back the Formula One race.
With the heavily renovated Fuji Speedway snatching the event for 2007
from an ageing Suzuka, Honda Motor Co. said it will update the paddock and pits so that it might again be considered for a Grand Prix.
Some changes to circuit safety are also believed to be on the agenda, after MotoGP never returned to Suzuka following the death of Daijiro Kato in 2003.
Officials are, however, keen to leave the basic layout of the track - lauded by drivers as one of the very best and challenging in the world - basically unchanged.
The renovations are expected to be completed within a year.
Honda Motor Co. said: "Honda will renovate Suzuka Circuit with the goal to achieve the further evolution of mobility and motor sports.
"The pits and paddocks on the race course will be overhauled."
