Technical role for former Jaguar bossFormer Jaguar Team Principal Tony Purnell is joining F1's governing body as a 'technical consultant', the FIA announced in a statement on Monday.
"Purnell's main role will be to assist the FIA in developing Formula One technologies
that will be road-relevant and which will help to improve the racing on the track," the FIA stated.
The FIA said the 48-year-old Briton, whose company 'Pi' was purchased by Ford in 1999 which made him a millionaire, will work alongside the FIA's Peter Wright and Charlie Whiting and 'liaise with manufacturers, oil companies and key universities'.
FIA President Max Mosley said: "Everyone who has worked with Tony knows him to be one of the most pragmatic and technically astute minds in the sport."
Shortly following Jaguar's purchase by Red Bull, Purnell was replaced in early 2005 by the team's current Team Principal, Christian Horner.
