Renault tipped to retain Laureus title
Taking on the big teams in the world of sport
Renault is tipped to win the prestigious Laureus World Team sports award for the second year in a row for 2006.

Off the back of Fernando Alonso's maiden title, the Enstone based squad - having also won the constructors'
trophy last year - fended off football's hot favourite Liverpool to earn the Laureus prize in May.

Renault repeated the championship double this year, and is among the likely nominations for the 2006 Laureus prize, according to reports this week.

Six nominees are presently being selected by the world's leading sports journalists from 80 countries. The selection period closes in late January.

Among the likely nominees are World Cup champions Italy, European football champions Barcelona, the Ryder Cup golf team, basketball team Miami Heat, New Zealand's All Blacks rugby team, baseball's St Louis Cardinals and the Australian cricket team.

Fernando Alonso is also tipped to gain a nomination for becoming the youngest ever back to back World Champion in 2006, despite tennis' Roger Federer winning in both 2004 and 2005.

Michael Schumacher, meanwhile, won Laureus' Sportsman of the Year plaudit in 2004.
