Realistic expectations at Spyker
Gascoyne aiming to move team up the field
Mike Gascoyne says the Spyker MF1 Racing team is not going to be quick enough to win the World Championship - even by 2009.
"That blatantly is not going to happen," the former Jordan, Renault and Toyota Technical Director told
Reuters after he was appointed as the Dutch team's new 'Chief Technology Officer'. James Key remains Technical Director.

Gascoyne remains on Toyota 'gardening leave' until the end of October, after splitting with the Cologne based squad in April.

He said the goal at Spyker is to reclaim the glory days of the Silverstone based team when, as Jordan, it challenged for wins in the late 90s.

Gascoyne, previously one of the highest paid faces in the F1 paddock, continued: "It's going to have to be (enough), it's not got a budget that allows it to be anything else."

"We had a lot of fun in 1999."
