TOSFED escape with a fineThe Turkish Grand Prix organizers breathed a sign of relief Tuesday after the motoring sport's world governing body stopped short of banning Turkey from hosting the race, even though it fined them five million dollars over a podium controversy last
month.
"What was important for us was to keep the races at the Istanbul Park (track) going on. We respect the fine," Ilhan Parseker, a senior member of the organizers' board, told Anatolia news agency.
The Turkish Automobile Sports Federation (TOFSED) also highlighted the fact that the punishment for allowing the leader of an unrecognised country to present the trophy to the winner did not go as far as a ban, as many had feared it would be.
"The Formula 1 races at the Istanbul Park will continue uninterrupted," the brief statement said, without any comment on the fine.
