Byrne to stay at Ferrari until 2009
Ferrari aiming for some technical stability
Design consultant Rory Byrne has signed a new two-year contract to extend his stay at Ferrari until early 2009, according to reports.
Earlier this month, the Sunday Times newspaper tipped the South African - the former chief
designer of Michael Schumacher's title winning cars - to finally 'retire to Thailand' at the end of 2006.

But the website of British magazine Autosport now says the 62-year-old is set to stay on, even though the Maranello based team is losing Michael Schumacher and probably Technical Director Ross Brawn.

Team boss Jean Todt, meanwhile, is thought likely to retire after 2007.

Designers Aldo Costa and Nicholas Tombazis, however, are staying put to comprise a strong line-up for 2007, and Brawn is tipped to return in 2008 following a short sabbatical.

Ferrari will not confirm the structure of the team for 2007 and beyond until the end of the season.

Ferrari president Luca di Montezemolo told reporters at Monza: "We want to maintain an important stability with some new entrants."
