Ron Walker full of praise for retiring ChampionMichael Schumacher helped ensure the success of the Australian Grand Prix and made a significant contribution to charity, Australian GP race organisers said Monday.
The seven-times World Champion announced at Monza that
he would retire at the end of the current season.
"The legacy of Michael's magnificent contribution to motor sport will be remembered long after the chequered flag comes down in Sao Paulo on October 22," Australian Grand Prix Corporation Chairman Ron Walker said. "Of his record 90 race wins, four of those were won at Melbourne's Albert Park in the Formula One Australian Grand Prix.”
"His status and brilliant driving have helped make Melbourne's great race the country's premier annual sporting event. Not only was he an amazingly gifted driver, he has also made a wonderful contribution to Australian charities over the years.”
"On each visit to Melbourne, Michael would always take time out from his schedule to lend his support to a range of worthy charitable causes and paid numerous visits to sick children in hospital."
