No concerns with Friday paceFernando Alonso was in a confident mood at Indianapolis on Friday despite lapping more than 1.4s slower than the pace-setting Honda of Anthony Davidson. Alonso was however not too concerned about Friday form, completing only 14 laps all day compared
to the 65 of the Briton.
"To be eighth or ninth on Friday is not what we did in the first half of the season. We know this circuit is not perfect for the characteristics of the car, but I think this car can be competitive anywhere," said Alonso. "Friday is just about understanding the car, and we have done that. I am confident of what we can do this weekend."
Alonso has won the last four races and leads
Michael Schumacher by 25 points in the drivers' championship.
A win for the Spaniard could make the Ferrari driver's chances of catching him in the championship virtually impossible, but he has never before finished a race at Indianapolis.
Team-mate
Giancarlo Fisichella was the fastest of the race drivers in the afternoon practice session and thinks he could be set for his best weekend of the season.
"This was one of the best Friday sessions of the season for me," said Fisichella. "The car felt comfortable straight away and when we made set-up changes it just got better. It all looks very encouraging for tomorrow and the race."
