Schumacher eyeing those Michelin's
Renault advantage down to tyres
Michael Schumacher hinted at Indianapolis yesterday that Fernando Alonso's four-race winning streak has been down to the increased performance of the Renault team's Michelin tyres above anything else.
Schumacher has struggled to match Alonso
on tracks that he expected to have the upper hand on and believes that it is not the Ferrari car that is to blame for him lagging behind.

When asked if he was surprised at Renault's continuous pace increases, Schumacher said: "In a way yes. You would think we should have more resources available. But there are two areas: tyre development and car developments, and it depends what area you compare."

Schumacher, whose Ferrari uses Bridgestone tyres, desperately needs to win at Indianapolis this weekend - for the fourth year in a row - if he is to stop the Alonso steam-roller from gathering yet more momentum.

The Ferrari driver is currently 25 points behind the defending World Champion with only nine races to go and 90 points available, so closing the gap to the ever-consistent Alonso should be a tough challenge. He has no doubts though, that the Ferrari team have been working around the clock to get the German and his Brazilian team-mate Felipe Massa onto a level playing field with Renault.

"There is clearly progress happening," added the German. "If you go back to the races, sort of before England, we looked pretty strong. You see the development we have done and it looked good for us. We keep on developing, there is nothing more for us to do. We keep on fighting and we will see what happens."
