Austrian firm to axe Austrian driver?Like
Juan Pablo Montoya, Red Bull's Christian Klien might have to turn to the American racing scene as a career lifeline for the 2007 season.
The 23-year-old Austrian is in pole position to be chopped from the energy drink-owned team's
race line-up at the end of the season, as support for his veteran team-mate David Coulthard grows.
Admitting that either Klien or 35-year-old Coulthard will almost certainly be shown the door, team principal Christian Horner told Motorsport News: "(Christian) has got an experienced team-mate in David and he needs to tidy up elements of performance such as his inconsistency."
Austrian newspaper Salzburger Nachrichten mentioned the Champ Car possibility, saying that Klien could continue to enjoy Red Bull backing. AJ Allmendinger already enjoys Red Bull's support in the category.
Klien's other option appeared to be the company's junior F1 team Toro Rosso, but co-owner Gerhard Berger has not spoken glowingly about the scenario.
All this assumes that Red Bull will be recruiting a new driver for next season.
