Error perhaps not in transit to Barcelona
Jacques Jacques Villeneuve
has clarified that his engine was damaged after an incident in the Nurburgring paddock, not - as reported - en route to Spain.
Human error was the cause, but it is unclear if the 2.4 litre unit was simply dropped.
"We think that's when it happened (at the Nurburgring)," said the French Canadian, who must move ten places down the Barcelona grid due to the unscheduled exchange.
F1's two-race engine rule prevented BMW from opening the allegedly dropped engine to inspect it for real damage.
Instead, it has returned to the German carmaker's Munich factory to complete the race distance on a dyno.
