Contract in place for another three events
The immediate future of the Nurburgring's Formula One race is secure. That is the message of Walter Kafitz, managing director of the German circuit in the Eifel mountains that traditionally holds the annual European Grand Prix.
Current speculation says that Valencia, in Spain, could possibly be drafted in by Bernie Ecclestone to grab the spot on the 2007 calendar.
But Kafitz, in Auto Motor Und Sport, referred to the Nurburgring's F1 contract, valid until 2008.
“For another three years Formula One will be at the Nurburgring,” he insisted, despite earlier hinting at a possible scheme to alternate the German race each year with financially embattled Hockenheim.
Nurburgring will host the 2006 European Grand Prix on May 7.
