Alonso realistic on his chances against Red BullFernando Alonso
claimed pole position for Sunday’s Hungarian Grand Prix but while the double world champion starts the race from the front of the field, his target on race day is to try and secure a points paying position
to add to his 13 secured in the nine rounds of the season to date.
“We will try but being honest and realistic our target is to get some good points after the last four Grand Prix when we only scored points in Nurburgring, only two points with seventh place,” the lightly fuelled Alonso said. “We need some points for the constructors’ championship especially. If we start very heavy, we go around in eighth or ninth position and we finish our chances to get some good points.
“So we are aggressive this time, we’ve got what we wanted with the pole or maybe better than we expected and then from now on we will push all through the race and hopefully score some good points and help the team in the constructors’ championship because it’s very tight with Williams, Toyota, with McLaren, so we need to go for it.”
Renault is currently seventh in the standings with Alonso having scored all 13 points. The Anglo-French team trail McLaren Mercedes by one point and the resurgent Williams Toyota team by 7.5.
