Ross Brawn is confident that this weekend the team that bares his name will be back in contention for the victory as the higher ambient temperatures should suit the car while team have various aerodynamic updates which should also aid their performance.
The British and German
Grand Prix results proved a bit of a surprise for the previously dominant Brawn Mercedes team with 16 points from the two races while rivals Red Bull Renault notched up the maximum possible 36.
“We have not been able to achieve the full potential of our car at the same time as our competitors have taken a good step forward,” stated Team Principal Brawn. “However we are confident that the inherent performance of the BGP 001 which was demonstrated during the first half of the season has not disappeared and the problems that we faced were unique to the circumstances of those races.
“We have a significant aerodynamic upgrade for the race in Budapest which will bring performance gains in efficiency, downforce and aero balance but we face a fierce battle and we must continue to improve for the rest of the season,” he added.
While Red Bull has taken 20 points from Brawn’s advantage in the last two races, the team still enjoys a 19.5 point cushion at the head of the constructors’ championship.
For championship leader Jenson Button
, the Hungarian Grand Prix will always be that bit special as he recorded his first Grand Prix victory at the circuit three years ago, something he would dearly like to repeat this Sunday afternoon.
