Jerez - BMW Sauber - Test Day 1Christian Klien was the BMW Sauber driver on hand today at the Jerez circuit for the first of a four-day testing programme.
After extensive dyno testing and a successful shakedown in Miramas last week, the BMW Sauber F1 Team for the
first time ran an F1.07C car equipped with the Kinetic Energy Recovery System (KERS) in an official test.
Right after the installation laps in the morning there was an incident involving a mechanic: when Klien returned to the pits, the mechanic touched the car and suffered an electric shock which sent him falling to the ground.
He sustained slight injuries to his left hand and grazing on his left arm. After a brief examination at the track's Medical Center, he returned to work with the test team.
Klien had only completed three laps, but with the team still investigating the cause of the incident, it was wisely decided not to run the car in the afternoon.
BMW Sauber will continue testing in Jerez for three more days. Christian Klien will return tomorrow, this time at the wheel of the current F1.08 car with further development tests for the 2008 season on the schedule;
Nick Heidfeld will take over on Thursday.
