Going beyond the objectivesAfter nine races, Formula One has already completed half of the 2008 season, and the BMW Sauber F1 Team has celebrated numerous successes to date in 2008. Here is a tally of achievements the team can be proud of.
More than a victory: the
objective for the 2008 season for the team from Munich and Hinwil was clear: a win. In Canada, BMW Sauber went one better when Robert Kubica and
Nick Heidfeld celebrated a one-two finish on Montreal's Gilles-
Jacques Villeneuve circuit.
World Championship leader, part one: the Canadian Grand Prix was a very special race for Robert Kubica. Not only was he able to celebrate his first Formula One victory, he also took the lead in the Drivers' World Championship.
World Championship leader, part two: leading the World Championship was, however, a familiar feeling for the BMW Sauber; the team had already moved to the top of the Constructors' World Championship after the Bahrain Grand Prix.
Pole position: in Bahrain, a BMW Sauber F1 Team driver started from the front of the grid for the first time.
Robert Kubica qualified fastest on the desert circuit, clocking a time of just 1:33.096 minutes.
Fastest lap:
Nick Heidfeld is the first BMW Sauber driver to record the fastest lap during a race. In the second race of the season, the 31-year-old was the quickest driver at the Sepang International Circuit in Malaysia.
7 from 9: the BMW Sauber drivers have stood on the podium no less than seven times this season so far. While Robert Kubica has achieved one victory, two second places and a third,
Nick Heidfeld has finished second on three occasions.
Run of points: Robert Kubica has finished in the points seven times in a row in 2008. This is the longest run of points-scoring success of all the Formula One drivers this year.
