Jerez - McLaren Mercedes - Test day 1McLaren had little competition today as race driver Lewis Hamilton topped the timesheets from test driver Pedro de la Rosa. With Ferrari taking its own testing route, the two top teams of the current era are not testing together again
this week.
However, the focus for the McLaren Mercedes test team today was on aerodynamic development, with new components arriving from the McLaren Technology Centre for the start of the session and mid-way through the day.
Hamilton competed 89 laps of the 4.428km circuit with a best time of 1:19.102s, while de la Rosa was 0.
185s slower and second fastest over 88 laps.
Heikki Kovalainen takes over from de la Rosa as testing continues on Wednesday.
