Barcelona - BMW Sauber - Test day 1On Friday,
Nick Heidfeld and Robert Kubica continued their season preparations, commencing another three-day testing programme in Barcelona. For the first time this year, both drivers sat behind the wheel of a BMW Sauber F1.08, with Kubica
setting the third-fastest time of the session, ahead of fifth-fastest Heidfeld.
Conditions at the Circuit de Catalunya were quite good, with sunshine in the afternoon and temperatures reaching 14 °C. A total of 15 drivers representing eight teams took part in the group test today.
Kubica completed 66 laps (307 kilometres) and set a personal fastest lap time of 1:22.983 minutes. Heidfeld covered a total mileage of 246 kilometres (53 laps) at the wheel of his F1.08. His personal fastest lap time was clocked in 1:23.270 minutes.
Avoiding quite low track temperatures in the early morning (around 6 °C) the team started proper testing not before 11 a.m. Both drivers worked on the set-up of the F1.
08 using some new mechanical parts.
Although low temperatures and a number of red flag interruptions meant that both drivers couldn't do as many laps as originally planned today, the changes showed promising results. Kubica also conducted several pit stop exercises.
Testing continues for two more days in Barcelona. Tomorrow Kubica is scheduled to test new parts to fine-tune the aerodynamics of the new BMW Sauber F1.08. Both he and Heidfeld will also continue to work on the mechanical setup.
