Large crowds expected at Circuit de CatalunyaThe 2008 Formula One World Championship is underway with the first out of five appointments at Circuit de Catalunya, kicking off the sporting activity of the year. On February 1st, 2nd, and 3rd, eight teams will test their new
single seaters.
BMW-Sauber, Renault, Williams Toyota, Red Bull Renault, Toro Rosso Ferrari, Honda, Force India and McLaren Mercedes are the teams that will put their cars on the asphalt. Many of them have already set camp at the Circuit’s paddock.
As these sessions will take place during the weekend, the Circuit is setting up a special security plan similar to the one deployed during mass-gathering races, since more than 35,000 fans are expected.
“For this event, instead of opening one gate to the facilities - as it is usually done in F1 group tests - we will open four: entrance gates 1, 3, 4 and 7," explained Ramon Praderas, General Manager of the Circuit de Catalunya.
"To guarantee an optimal traffic flow in access areas, the Catalan Police and the Traffic Control Service will be cooperating."
"Additional security staff will be guarding the ticket offices and public access. We also aim to offer a top quality service to spectators, therefore, the public areas will have more food and beverage stands than the usual for normal testing days. As a novelty, the access on gate 3 now has a Customer Service and Circuit Members Office directed to bring better customer support in a permanent way.”
The general entrance fee is six Euro.
