It's also a race against timeOn its way to the top in Formula One, speed is a must for the BMW Sauber F1 Team - not only on the racetrack but also when it comes to improving the car.
In less than two years, the BMW Sauber F1 Team has succeeded in establishing itself
as the third power on the Formula One grid. Two podium finishes in the current season, a front-row grid position and a clear lead over the fourth-placed team in the Constructors' Championship - that sums up the 2007 season to date.
On their way to realising these successes, drivers
Nick Heidfeld and Robert Kubica have not benefited from the speed of the BMW Sauber F1.07 alone.
"On the one hand, speed makes for good lap times," explains Willy Rampf, the team's Technical Director. "On the other, speed is also vital when it comes to making the car faster by the technical realisation of new ideas. That's the true challenge."
Therefore, the BMW Sauber F1 Team continues working flat-out on improving the F1.07, even during the summer break.
"The car is enhanced race by race," reveals BMW Motorsport Director Mario Theissen. "In this race against time, you always have to keep an eye on your opponents."
After all, the team has set itself the goal of successfully defending its third position in the Constructors' Championship until the season is over.
