A legal car or disqualification...Kimi Raikkonen on Thursday hit back at his former boss Ron Dennis' claim that he won the Australian Grand Prix at the wheel of an illegal Ferrari.
Amid the espionage war of words with his counterparts at Ferrari, Dennis wrote in
an open letter on Wednesday that the underbody of Raikkonen's winning F2007 in Melbourne was no legal.
Asked by a reporter in Budapest what he thought of Dennis' comments, Raikkonen - who drove for McLaren between 2002 and last year - said: "We would have been disqualified if the car had been illegal."
The Finn does agree with Dennis, however, that the long-lasting spy scandal is detracting from the on-track action.
Referring to the upcoming Court of Appeal hearing, 28-year-old Raikkonen said: "No matter what happens in the next weeks, it would be better if everything could be decided on the track."
Reigning world champion
Fernando Alonso, meanwhile, had been scheduled to attend the official FIA press conference on Thursday, but did not attend.
"McLaren-Mercedes requested that Alonso not appear and the request was accepted," AFP report an FIA spokesperson as saying.
Since the request was accepted, then there should be no penalty for his no-show.
