Hamilton had hoped to race Schumacher
Schumacher and Senna provide inspiration
World championship leader Lewis Hamilton has admitted that one of his biggest regrets was not being able to test himself against seven-time world champion Michael Schumacher.

Former Ferrari, Benetton and Jordan driver Schumacher,
who achieved 91 race wins during his 15-year career, retired from competition in 2006.

"When I heard that he was retiring, I said: 'Damn, please Michael keep going for another season and we'll have some great races against each other'," said the 22-year-old McLaren rookie.

"I met him last year before the Turkish Grand Prix and I was impressed because I'd heard that he was arrogant and not very nice but he took the time to talk to me and I was really honoured."

Hamilton, who currently has a 12-point cushion at the top of the standings from team-mate Fernando Alonso, added that he would also have loved to measure himself against Brazilian ace Ayrton Senna.

"They are men and drivers who inspire a lot of respect from me," added the Briton.
