Coulthard admits to a poor race at Silverstone
British GP - Red Bull Renault - Race
David Coulthard started the British Grand Prix in 12th position and took the chequered flag in 11th position as he chased the one-stopping Honda duo across the line. Team-mate Mark Webber ran in ninth position before a hydraulics issue
put him out of the race.

David Coulthard
“I didn’t drive very well today unfortunately, I made a couple of mistakes in the second stint and lost a bit of time. The car was tricky to drive, it had a lot of oversteer and the balance just wasn’t there today. So, it’s back to the drawing board and we’ll see what we get in Germany.”

Mark Webber
“I was happy with my start, I overtook Jarno who was running a lighter fuel load than me. I knew I was running heavier than some of the guys ahead of us, so the plan was to hang on in there at the pace we had, and then to get the benefit of running longer. As I came past the start-finish line on lap eight, my engineer told me to switch to a different gearbox map, but there was a problem with the hydraulics. As I came into Becketts, I had no power steering. I tried to keep going, but no hydraulics meant no throttle, steering, gearbox, the whole shooting match.

Christian Horner
"It was disappointing for Mark to retire early on with a suspected differential failure, which consequently caused the hydraulic system to fail. He’d looked reasonably competitive in the opening laps and, as it was clear to see the top ten had all gone very short, we would have had a reasonable race. David had a couple of moments on his second stint, which ultimately didn’t permit us to outrun the Hondas, which were on a one stop strategy. It’s frustrating to finish in eleventh position today.”

Fabrice Lom, Renault
“We are disappointed this afternoon as we were once again not able to show our real potential. Mark retired which showed also that our reliability was not strong enough. We are expecting some evolutions and improvements for the next race, we will have now two weeks and a testing session in Spa to get ready for the German Grand Prix where I hope we will be able to make the most of our package and score some points.”
